Insomnia
Insomnia disorder is a common condition that makes it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or return to sleep after waking. Many people also wake up too early or feel unrefreshed despite spending enough time in bed. These sleep difficulties often lead to daytime problems such as fatigue, low mood, irritability, trouble concentrating, and increased mistakes at work or home.
Diagnosis is based on your symptoms, sleep history, and how long the problem has lasted. Chronic insomnia occurs when symptoms happen at least three nights a week for three months or more. I will review medications, stressors, medical conditions, or lifestyle factors that could be contributing. In some cases, a sleep study is recommended.
Treatment focuses on improving sleep habits, reducing stress, and addressing underlying causes. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT‑I) is the most effective long‑term approach. Short‑term use of sleep medications may help when appropriate
